How should I maintain timber decking boards?

Regular maintenance is essential for prolonging the lifespan of timber decking. The timber deck surface needs regular cleaning to remove dirt and debris. Applying a sealant or stain, such as decking oil, will help prevent moisture damage and UV fading. When building your decking, using deck tape on the tops of any joists will help your deck last as long as possible.

How long can I expect timber decking boards to last?

Our outdoor timber products have been pressure-treated to withstand the elements. The lifespan of timber decking boards varies depending on factors such as the type of timber used, maintenance practices, climate, and exposure to the elements. Generally, properly maintained timber decking can last 10 to 30 years or more.

Can I build a deck by myself?

Yes, you can! With careful planning, basic carpentry skills, and attention to safety, you can successfully build a deck by yourself.
Just make sure to follow local regulations and take your time with each step of the process.

How do I build a deck?

The basics are:

  • Plan the layout to comply with local regulations.
  • Prepare the site, laying weed control fabric if on soil/grass
  • Build a frame, make sure it’s square, and the spacing of the joists isn’t bigger than the maximum.
  • Use decking posts or frame supports to secure your frame and level it.
  • Lay your timber decking with a consistent gap of 5mm between boards, cut to length.
  • Screw the decking boards into each joist they cross with two screws within the grooves.
